Sam Rubin, the longtime entertainment anchor for KTLA Morning News, has died. He was 64.

Rubin passed away as the result of a heart attack he suffered Friday after appearing on his regular Hollywood news segment that morning, according to our sister site Variety.

Shortly before 1 pm PT, KTLA broke into its own newscast to share the news of Rubin’s passing, with anchor Frank Buckley barely holding back tears.

Rubin joined KTLA, Los Angeles’ No. 1 news program, in 1991 and had won multiple Emmys throughout his career. Additionally, Rubin earned a Golden Mike Award for best entertainment reporter, a lifetime achievement award from the Southern California Broadcasters Association, and he has been honored by the Los Angeles Press Club.

Alongside his on-air reporting, Rubin helped found the Broadcast Film Critics Association, the largest organization of film and TV critics in the U.S. with more than 200 members. He also owned a television production company, SRE, Inc., that has produced over 200 hours of cable and broadcast-TV programming, including live red carpet shows and episodes of Hollywood Uncensored.

According to KTLA, Rubin was active in supporting non-profits. He organized philanthropic efforts on behalf of the KTLA team to raise money for multiple sclerosis research, revitalizing Los Angeles schools and more.

Rubin is survived by his wife, Leslie, and their four children.
