Emma Stone is odds on to become the fourth two-time Best Actress winner at the Screen Actors’ Guild Awards thanks to her starring role in Searchlight Pictures’ “Poor Things.” Stone, who first won the award in 2017 for “La La Land,” would join Frances McDormand (“Fargo” in 1997 and “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” in 2018), Renée Zellweger (“Chicago” in 2003 and “Judy” in 2020), and Viola Davis (“The Help” in 2012 and “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” in 2021).

However, that is not the only SAG record she could match. She could also become the second person to win Best Ensemble three separate times. Michael Keaton won this award for “Birdman” (2015), “Spotlight” (2016), and “The Trial of the Chicago 7” (2021). Stone shared in that first win with Keaton (she played his daughter) and was also part of “The Help” ensemble.

Among the other two-time Best Ensemble winners: Ben Affleck (“Shakespeare in Love” in 1999 and “Argo” in 2013), Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush (both “Shakespeare in Love” and “The King’s Speech” in 2011), Woody Harrelson (“No Country for Old Men” in 2008 and “Three Billboards” in 2018), Octavia Spencer (“The Help” in 2012 and “Hidden Figures” in 2017), and Andy Serkis (“The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” in 2004 and “Black Panther” in 2019).

In “Poor Things,” Stone plays a woman brought back from the dead who then explores her new life with vigor. We predict that Yorgos Lanthimos‘ film will be nominated alongside “Oppenheimer,” “Barbie,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” and “The Color Purple.”

However, “Poor Things” is currently in fourth place in our odds chart, a way off leader “Oppenheimer.” Christopher Nolan‘s epic biopic has a sprawling cast full of A-listers and is the movie to beat this awards season after it won five Golden Globes including Best Drama Picture. However, “Poor Things” also won Best Comedy/Musical Picture as well as Best Comedy/Musical Actress for Stone, so there is a lot of love for that film, too.

“Poor Things” also boasts the supporting duo of Mark Ruffalo and Willem Dafoe, who were both nominated at the Golden Globes. We think Ruffalo will be nominated at SAG while Dafoe is on the precipice of a bid. Add to that the likes of Ramy Youssef, Christopher Abbott, Margaret Qualley, Jerrod Carmichael, and Kathryn Hunter and you’ve got an exquisite lineup of thespians in the “Poor Things” cast. That gives it a solid number of actors to be listed, as we know SAG generally prefers larger casts.

Plus, SAG voters don’t typically embrace biopics. Only three — “Spotlight,” “Hidden Figures,” and “The Trial of the Chicago 7” — have won in the past decade. Instead, more artistic movies with broad performances and strong genre flavors tend to win, such as “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” “Parasite,” “Black Panther,” “Three Billboards,” and “Birdman.” “Poor Things” fits that bill.

So, could “Poor Things” pull off an upset in Best Ensemble? It shocked “Barbie” fans by taking home Best Comedy/Musical Picture at the Golden Globes, so why not? If it did, Stone could find herself making history twice come SAG night.
