SAG-AFTRA Exploring Pay Disparity on ‘All the Money in the World’ Re-Shoots

SAG-AFTRA has become involved with the pay disparity between stars Michelle Williams and Mark Wahlberg on the re-shoots for “All the Money in the World.”

The scenes with the stars were re-shot in November by Ridley Scott due to Christopher Plummer replacing Kevin Spacey in the J. Paul Getty role following allegations of sexual abuse in early November.

USA Today reported Tuesday that Wahlberg was paid $1.5 million to re-shoot scenes with Plummer after negotiating a deal with Imperative Entertainment, while Williams was paid the per diem mininum of $80 per day for a total of less than $1,000 — and was not told about Wahlberg’s deal. Scott was able to move quickly enough to shoot the new footage and edit the film that the movie still made its Dec. 25 release for Sony.

Scott told the newspaper in December that “everyone did it for nothing.”

A rep for SAG-AFTRA, which is the union representing both actors, said that the organization is looking at the circumstances of the pay disparity. Scott, Wahlberg and Williams are all repped by WME, which has not commented. Imperative Entertainment, which financed the re-shoots for a reported $10 million, has not commented nor has Sony.

The film, which details the 1973 kidnapping of J. Paul Getty III and his grandfather’s refusal to pay a ransom for six months, has performed modestly at the domestic box office with $21 million in its first 16 days. Wahlberg plays Getty’s adviser and Williams portrays Beth Harris, mother of the kidnap victim.

The report evoked a blizzard of responses from notable actors, led by Jessica Chastain.
