It's been a busy offseason for New York Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu.

Between training with Team USA for the upcoming Summer Olympics in Paris, preparing for a new WNBA season and lending her time to outside projects like starring in CarMax's new commercial, the 26-year-old basketball star tells PEOPLE that the "highlight" of her offseason was tying the knot with her husband, NFL player Hroniss Grasu.

"Definitely, getting married was the highlight, just being able to kind of put the world on pause for two weeks and be able to celebrate something that is just so special," Ionescu says of her March 10 wedding.

The WNBA star says she and Grasu, 32, had "25 to 30 family members from Romania who had not been to America" before fly in to attend the ceremony in Laguna Beach, California.

"They were able to come here for the first time and obviously have been able to see us and to just have that moment to spend with all of our family, which is really hard being both professional athletes and just so busy," Ionescu explains.

"So, it was definitely very memorable and we're still coming down from it," she says on the set of CarMax's commercial in Los Angeles, California, where her new husband tagged along for support (and was spotted carrying her bags as they traveled around to different shoot locations).

Ionescu jokingly adds, "So, I'm definitely still getting used to saying that I have a husband."

The couple's Romanian family members who traveled to California for the wedding "loved" their trip, and stayed an extra couple of weeks to do some sightseeing, Ionescu shares. "They went everywhere. They went to San Francisco, they went to Vegas. That was fun for them. And Santa Barbara, they went around and did everything and said it was exciting."

"I mean, for them being able to come to, especially California, from Romania is the coolest thing they've ever seen, so it was really nice to be able to show them around and just get to spend time with them."

Aside from spending time with her family, Ionescu says she wanted to prioritize time for herself this offseason.

"Just taking time away from working out on the basketball court and just being able to enjoy my offseason, especially these last two months with my husband and his offseason as well," she shares.

Grasu is currently an NFL free agent, most recently having played for the Las Vegas Raiders.

"We usually have both don't usually overlap in off seasons for very long," Ionescu says of her husband. "So, we went to Hawaii last week and were able to take time to just kind of relax and kind of get refreshed for another season."

Ionescu is now back to work — the Liberty are 2-0 in their first two games of the WNBA season, with wins over the Washington Mystics and the Indiana Fever.
