‘Monster Hunt’ Bags China Opening Day Record

Chinese fantasy film “Monster Hunt” has broken China’s opening day box office record with a first day gross of $27.7 million (RMB172 million).

Directed by Raman Hui, “Monster Hunt” is a 3D live-action adventure, set in a fantasy world where humans and monsters battle to rule the land.

The Hong Kong-Chinese production is produced by Bill Kong’s Edko Films and stars Eric Tsang, Wallace Chung, Bia Baihe and Sandra Ng.

Its previews last week – of $930,000 in three days – were enough to earn it tenth place in last weekend’s China box office chart. Its full release through Edko Films (China) and Union Films was Thursday (July 16).
