James Wan Hires Michael Clear To Run Atomic Monster Label

Furious 7 helmer James Wan has hired Michael Clear to head Atomic Monster, the production company based at New Line that was part of his deal to helm The Conjuring 2. Clear will oversee day-to-day operations reporting directly to Wan. He takes the job as Wan has established himself as a red-hot directing commodity after the arduous and tragic production of Furious 7 led to a film that has grossed over $1.5 billion. He’s working on The Conjuring at New Line, and produced Insidious 3. Upcoming are such films as Aquaman, and Robotech.

“Michael is a great addition to the Atomic Monster team,” said Wan, calling him “a savvy decision-maker and a dynamic executive. He and I have a similar taste in films and I’m looking forward to working with him to jump start our production slate.”

Clear most recently was a veep at Scott Stuber’s Bluegrass Films, working on films that included Safe House, A Million Ways To Die In The West, and the upcoming Matthew McConaughey starrer The Free State Of Jones. Clear also set up and developed the genre pic Bird Box, which Andy Muschietti is attached to direct at Universal.
