Donald Trump Cancels ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ Appearance

Donald Trump will no longer be stopping by “Jimmel Kimmel Live” tonight, as the presidential hopeful cancelled his appearance just hours before he was set for the late-night show.

Kimmel announced the news Tuesday morning on Howard Stern’s radio show, Insiders say the host is expected to discuss the situation on tonight’s show.

“Donald Trump canceled on us last night,” Kimmel told Stern, stating the reasoning is “unclear,” but that Trump indicated a political event was the source of conflict. “I don’t know what happened,” Kimmel added, sarcastically continuing, “We’re delighted, needless to say.”

Though Trump was scheduled to appear, he was never set for a full sit-down guest interview. Rather, he was just supposed to take part in an on-stage bit, likely planned for after the first guest’s interview. Kimmel told Variety about Trump’s original plans in an interview earlier this week.

This week, Kimmel moved his show to Brooklyn, New York from its usual L.A. home. Though Trump is said to reschedule his appearance, scheduling may be tough given “Jimmy Kimmel’s” regular California location and the real estate mogul’s busy campaign trail.

Other guests set for Kimmel’s week in Brooklyn include Jay Z, who will be on the show tonight, Michael J. Fox, Joy Behar, Bradley Cooper, Tracy Morgan and Stern, who’ll wrap up the week with an interview on Friday. Also on Stern’s radio show this morning, Kimmel mentioned Morgan may be moved to Tuesday night, in place of Trump.

In addition to multiple media appearances across many news outlets, Trump has made the late-night rounds with appearances on Stephen Colbert’s CBS “Late Show” and Jimmy Fallon’s “Tonight Show” on NBC this season. He has not yet been on “The Daily Show” with new host Trevor Noah, though in a September interview with Variety, Noah said he hopes to have Trump on the Comedy Central show.

Similarly to the Kimmel-Trump situation, House Speaker John Boehner recently withdrew from a scheduled appearance on Fallon’s show, due to a political obligation.

Trump is also set to host “Saturday Night Live” on November 7.

Update: Trump campaign spokeswoman Hope Hicks said, via email, “Unfortunately Mr. Trump now has a political obligation that will prevent him from joining as planned, but we have rescheduled to join in-studio in LA over the next few weeks.”
