RZA and Parisi tackle refugee crisis in 'No Refuge' video
Differing ideas about how to approach the ongoing refugee crisis has decided recent elections all over the world: A proposed border wall was the centerpiece of the campaign that got Donald Trump elected U.S. president, while fear of immigrants was cited as one of the major explanations for Brexit. In a new music video for “No Refuge,” Wu-Tang Clan mastermind RZA teams with production duo PARISI to look at the situation from another angle.
The video begins with a bus dropping off a group of refugees in the desert. Then RZA comes in with a direct knock on policies banning immigrants from seeking refuge in the United States: “I don’t understand how you could ban a man from a land that was supposed to be a beacon of light for men escaping the plight of tyranny.” Later, he references contemporary politics again by putting a new spin on Trump’s campaign slogan. “Let’s make America great again, but not a place that’s filled with bigotry, racism and hate again.”
All proceeds from “No Refuge” will go to the UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency. Watch the video above.
