Ryan Stock Explains Flaming Arrow Accident on ‘America’s Got Talent’: ‘We Had An Equipment Malfunction’

Ryan Stock and Amberlynn had one mission in mind on Tuesday night’s (Aug. 2) episode of America’s Got Talent — to dazzle the audience with a brand new stunt.

The plan, Stock told Billboard, was to add another dimension to the engaged duo’s death-defying act by swallowing a target and having his fiancée, Amberlynn Walker, fire a flaming arrow right into the bullseye and down his throat. Then it all went wrong as Amberlynn missed the target completely, striking Stock in the neck.

The duo were sadly eliminated on AGT’s results show Wednesday night (Aug. 3), but not before leaving viewers with a lasting impression.

“We wanted to give the audience something we never did before,” said Stock, who entertained many audiences with a full 90-minute show prior to auditioning for AGT. “People certainly saw something they had never seen before.”

So what went wrong? Stock said it’s still confusing, but after watching the playback it appears the spring on Amberlynn’s laser sight “slipped off the arrow,” knocking if off its path. Since the notch on the arrow was broken, it came at Stock on an angle with “less power.”

“We had been practicing for this for the past three months at about ten times a day, and it worked,” he said. “It was the first time we ever did it live for an audience, and we had an equipment malfunction.”

Thankfully, Stock was not injured or burned, as safety measures were taken before the fateful performance.

“We take safety precautions,” he said. “All of the clothes that I am wearing are fire retardant.”

Was it a tense ride home for the engaged couple after the show? Not at all, he said.

“It wasn’t her fault,” he said. “I’m not going to give her a hard time about it. We do what we do. It’s a dangerous show, and we’re doing dangerous stuff. It’s all real.”
