This is… our ultimate singing competition reunion coming to fruition? Ryan Seacrest is “interested” in an American Idol reunion with his original co-stars Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul — and we’re already trying to will this opportunity into existence. Since Seacrest isn’t the only member of the OG team who dropped hints this week, could a full-blown reunion really be far behind?

ICYMI, Idol‘s first winner, Kelly Clarkson, has her own talk show these days, and she did fans a solid by having Cowell, Jackson and Abdul back together for a visit to her set this week. During the segment, it was clear the three former Idol judges hadn’t missed a beat. While Seacrest couldn’t make the appearance in person, he did Skype in to chat with the trio. And it wasn’t just fans who picked up on the fact that the original Idol crew hadn’t lost any of the chemistry that made them so exciting to watch.

Speaking with People backstage at the iHeartRadio Music Festival on Friday, Seacrest admitted the mini-reunion made him nostalgic. “After seeing us in one place again and realizing the craziness that was and the chemistry that still is there? I think it would be pretty fun,” he alluded to a real reunion, hinting, “I would be interested if we were all into it to do it together. I think it’d be fun.”

Seacrest might have less of an uphill battle on his hands than he imagines. While on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Cowell made the case for the OG crew to come back together in a professional capacity. “If I had one wish it’d be to make another show with us again,” he said, elaborating on why he felt the original combo was so successful. “What worked about that series was that Randy, like myself, is an A&R guy, but also a record producer. Paula actually was a brilliant spotter of talent. I was an A&R guy, which is one of the reasons why I think we had this additional chemistry.”

Cowell also made a strong point in mentioning how many artists the original team discovered that went on to become major stars. Clarkson, obviously — but also Carrie Underwood, Fantasia Barrino, Chris Daughtry, Jennifer Hudson, Adam Lambert, Mandisa, Kellie Pickler, Clay Aiken, Jordin Sparks, Katharine McPhee and more.

They definitely had some magic, and they all seem down to do something new. So, looks like the ball’s in your court, ABC. Or you know, any network that wants to capitalize on this unique opportunity to bring a nostalgic dream-team back together on national TV.
