Fans will see a lot of intense fight scenes in Deadpool, but it’s safe to say none was more intense for Ryan Reynolds to film than the one he did naked. And yes, according to Reynolds, every bit of flesh you see in that scene is his.

As the star explained during a San Francisco event hosted by Buzzfeed over the weekend, there’s a key face-off between Ajax (Ed Skrein) and Deadpool that was inspired, in part, by the sauna showdown in David Cronenberg’s Eastern Promises.

“I always thought there’s nothing more frightening than trying to fight a nude man in a Russian sauna,” Reynolds said. “That’s my version of just hell, I think, right there.” (Watch video of the interview at Buzzfeed’s Facebook.)

While the scene in Deadpool takes place in a burning building instead of a Russian sauna, it did require the same Viggo Mortensen-level of commitment to simultaneous violence and nudity. Let’s just say Reynolds goes full Viggo.

“There’s nothing else you can do except to just sorta grin, bear it, and go, ‘All right guys, we’re all going to get to really know each other today. I may be sitting on this man’s face at some point, he may be sitting on mine,’” he explained. “It was ugly but necessary.”

As for those who may be wondering what Reynolds’ private parts look like, he provided a verbal tease, describing his penis as “just a small Haiku, written in braille.” So if you buy a ticket to Deadpool this weekend with the specific desire to see this man’s moneymaker, bring your binoculars, I guess?
