Ryan Reynolds To Star In Action-Comedy ‘Shotgun Wedding’ For Lionsgate & Mandeville; Jason Moore To Direct

EXCLUSIVE: Ryan Reynolds has tied the knot to star in and produce action-comedy Shotgun Wedding for Lionsgate, Mandeville Films and his outfit Maximum Effort with Pitch Perfect helmer Jason Moore on board to direct.

The movie reunites Deadpool star Reynolds with Lionsgate after the two partnered on hit action-comedy The Hitman’s Bodyguard. It also re-teams Mandeville’s Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman with the studio after their 2017 box office hit Wonder. Beauty And The Beast producers Lieberman and Hoberman also produced Reynolds-starring hit The Proposal.

Slated to shoot this summer, the action rom-com will follow a couple whose extravagant destination wedding is taken over by criminals. In the process of saving their families, they rediscover why they wanted to get married in the first place. Casting is underway for the female lead and additional roles.

The original script and pitch comes from Mark Hammer; Liz Meriwether will also collaborate on the screenplay. Mandeville Films’ Alex Young and Maximum Effort’s George Dewey will executive produce while Lionsgate Motion Picture Group SVP of Production and Development James Myers and Director of Development Brady Fujikawa will oversee for the studio.

“I haven’t done a romantic comedy since The Proposal but I just fell in love with Shotgun Wedding,” said Reynolds. “It’s so refreshing and surprising. I can’t wait to bring it to life with Jason, Todd, Dave and the great team at Lionsgate.”

“We’ve been looking for an opportunity to reteam with Ryan. He’s a rare actor who can do it all and we are so excited to have found the right film for all of us. It’s great to be working with the talented Jason Moore and our great partners at Lionsgate,” added Lieberman and Hoberman.

Lionsgate Motion Picture Group President Nathan Kahane commented, “Ryan’s trademark wit and action chops have captivated moviegoers around the world, and we have the perfect filmmaker and the ideal property to showcase his incredibly versatile talents. We can’t wait to bring our next collaboration with Ryan and the amazing Mandeville creative team to theaters.”

Next out for Reynolds will be animation Pokémon: Detective Pikachu and Michael Bay’s 6 Underground. Upcoming for Lionsgate are John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and Hellboy. Mandeville is in post-production on The Aeronauts.
