Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are bringing back ’80s hair this holiday season.

The longtime pals and business partners, who own the UK soccer team Wrexham A.F.C. together, recreated two of Wham!’s most iconic cover arts on Monday (Dec. 18), in which Reynolds and McElhenney are dressed up as George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley, respectively.

“WREXHAM,” the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia actor fittingly captioned his Instagram post, in which the duo recreate the black-and-white cover photo for Wham!’s hit 1986 track, “Last Christmas,” just in time for the holidays. The second slide is a recreation of the red and leather Fantastic album cover from 1983.

The tribute comes less than a week before the seventh anniversary of Michael’s unexpected death at 53 years old on Dec. 25, 2016. Michael died at his home in Oxfordshire county, and while an initial autopsy failed to identify his cause of death, a senior coroner for Oxfordshire said in 2017 that a post-mortem found that the singer died of “dilated cardiomyopathy with myocarditis and fatty liver.” Dilated cardiomyopathy is a condition in which the heart’s ability to pump blood is limited, while myocarditis is inflammation of the heart muscle.

“Last Christmas” continues to endure as one of the holiday season’s most popular songs, as it currently sits at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart dated December 23, 2023. It also ranks at No. 4 on the Holiday 100 tally.
