Even celebrities can’t stop thinking about the Roman Empire.

Ryan Reynolds is joining the legions of men who have answered the viral question: “How often do you think about the Roman Empire?”

The app is now full of videos of women recording themselves asking their male partners, fathers, brothers and any other men in their lives how frequently they find themselves pondering the empire — and reacting to their responses.

Reynolds, 46, took the trend into his own hands, sharing a very casual selfie (in sweats and glasses and what appears to be him laying down on a bed) that he captioned, “Jus' thinkin' 'bout The Roman Empire.”

The Deadpool star also used the song “Roman Holiday” by The National to soundtrack the selfie, in which he makes intense eye contact with the camera.

Although the ever-sarcastic actor’s snap did not actually answer “how often” he thinks about the ancient civilization, it did appear to poke fun at the men who think about it frequently during their day-to-day life.

The trend began after Swedish Instagram user Arthur Hulu — known online as Gaius Flavius — shared an Instagram Reel on Aug. 19 that said, "Ladies, many of you do not realize how often men think about the Roman Empire,” according to The Independent and The Washington Post.

Since then, several male celebrities have participated in — or, like Reynolds, poked fun at — the trend.

In a TikTok interview at Gucci’s Milan Fashion Week show, Chicken Shop Date host Amelia Dimoldenberg asked Paul Mescal — who is starring in Gladiator 2 — the question, and he responded, “I would say in the last six months, I’ve been thinking about the Roman Empire quite a bit.”

“Other than that … I would say my dad thinks about the Roman Empire daily,” he added.

Bachelorette star Hannah Brown also participated in the trend, asking her fiancé Adam Woolard to answer the viral question. His response? “Pretty consistently.”

Woolard said the ancient empire is “constantly” on his mind because of martial arts and modern politics.

“Men, to our core, I think are warriors,” he said in the TikTok. “You have to be ready for battle at all times, and the Roman Empire is all about battle. Common sense!"

During a discussion about the Roman Empire trend on Today, Carson Daly admitted to thinking about the ancient civilization “every day,” adding that it “harkens back to Marcus Aurelius,” a philosopher and Roman emperor.

“First of all, the movie Gladiator is in every guy’s top five favorite movies,” Daly, 50, said. “Joe Rogan’s podcast is wildly popular, and there’s this trend to have this modern understanding of ancient philosophies like stoicism, cold plunging is a big thing right now, keto.”

Several professional sports teams have also joined in the trend, sharing videos of their players answering the question. In TikToks shared by the Charlotte Hornets and the Baltimore Ravens, the prompt drummed up lots of mixed reactions and replies.

Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams denied thinking about the empire altogether. “I don’t think about that!” he said in a video on the team’s TikTok account. “I don’t even know what that is.”

In a TikTok shared by the Philadelphia Eagles, responses ranged from “never” and “not until you just said something” to “like three times a week” and “quite often, actually.”

Center Jason Kelce said, “My wife asked me this question. Never. I don’t know how this became a thing.”

Kelce, 35, added: “I don’t know if it’s like a big joke everybody’s playing.”
