Ryan Reynolds gives update on Deadpool 3: 'We're working on it'

It’s been nine months since the Disney-Fox deal was officially finalized, and the pop culture landscape is still adjusting to the change. Comic fans everywhere knew that this combination means the movie rights to the X-Men are now under the same umbrella as the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Given Dark Phoenix‘s disappointing box office earlier this year, Disney will almost certainly reboot the X-Men from scratch at some point. But Deadpool is still as popular as ever, so will they be continuing that sub-franchise? According to star Ryan Reynolds, the answer is yes.

Reynolds appeared on Live With Kelly and Ryan on Christmas Eve, where he showed off a family photo featuring one of his kids wearing a Deadpool mask. Cohost Ryan Seacrest asked if Deadpool 3 was forthcoming.

“We’re working on it with the whole team,” Reynolds said. “We’re over at Marvel now, which is like the big leagues all of a sudden. It’s kind of crazy.”

Reynolds then moved on to discuss Red Notice, his upcoming collaboration with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. But that’s still a relatively meaty Deadpool 3 update. Back in October, screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick told EW, “Marvel has promised to continue to let us play in the R-rated Deadpool universe, and the hope is that they will also let us veer into the MCU a little bit as well and play in that sandbox. Our feeling and Ryan’s feeling is that it’s got to be the right idea, it’s got to be great… I think once we collectively agree what idea that great idea is we’ll be off to the races.”
