Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool/Fox

Ryan Reynolds took a moment out of what looks to be an incredibly strenuous production schedule to share the first official photo from his long-awaited Deadpool movie.

Resting on a bearskin rug by the fire in a pose that recalls Burt Reynolds’ famous Cosmo shoot from 1972 (which the younger Reynolds later tweeted), the picture gives fans a very revealing look at Deadpool’s battle gear. The beloved Marvel character, who was introduced in the 1990s, is one of the funniest and most off-beat superheroes in mainstream comic universe — and the above photo above certainly celebrates that fact.

Still, Deadpool’s get-up is nothing really new; the body suit looks almost exactly like the get-up that Reynolds wore in the test footage made for a potential film several years ago. The movie was more or less dead in the water when the footage leaked online. A few months later, Fox announced that it had green-lit a Deadpool movie starring Reynolds and directed by Scott Pilgrim visual effects ace Tim Miller.

The sudden reversal, Reynolds told Yahoo Movies, can be chalked up “exclusively [to] the leaked test footage, 100 percent,” and that had he known that’d be the outcome of the breach, he’d have done it himself.

“The initial [leak] came from Fox they think — someone recorded the footage on their iPhone and then released it,” the actor said. “And then once that happened, somebody hacked into Blur Studios and got the original footage in high-res and put it online. Now, we get to make the movie. We don’t get to make it with the budget of most superhero movies, but we get to make it the way we want to make it, so that’s even more exciting than having a catered lunch.”

Deadpool hits theaters in February 2016. Here’s the official synopsis: “Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, DEADPOOL tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.”
