Ryan Phillippe's alleged assault victim says it is fair to question actress Reese Witherspoon about domestic abuse and gather any information she may have about Ryan's propensity for violent behavior.

According to legal documents, obtained by The Blast, Elsie Hewitt says that any information about Phillippe's "communications regarding any prior instance of violence," is highly relevant to her lawsuit against him for domestic abuse.

In the documents, Hewitt's lawyer Keith Fink, points out any information that can be gathered by Witherspoon can help to prove the violence is a pattern. He also thinks his other romantic relationships are also fair game.

"Such evidence can be used to attack (Ryan's) credibility. And admissibility of such evidence would prove (Ryan's) motive, opportunity, and the absence of mistake or accident," he explains.

We broke the story, the alleged victim is also trying to get her hands on any text messages or communications between Reese and Ryan on the day of the incident.

Reese is named on the witness list for someone who will be called during the trial.

In the filing, Hewitt claims Phillippe admitted in his deposition, "he did engage in a physical altercation" with her but it was out of" self-defense."

Also, he made the shocking statement under oath, he was trying to protect his face because he is a TV star.

He said she attacked him and during the melee and explained, would put my hands up to protect, because Im shooting my series, so I dont want my face messed up.

Hewitt explains any "evidence of prior lawsuits, complaints or police reporters concerning or lodged against (Phillippe); prior charges lodged against him for assault or battery is important to prove their there theory he has been, "exhibiting aggressive behavior towards women."

Ryan Phillippe has denied any wrongdoing or assaulting his ex-girlfriend. The case goes to trial later this year.
