Ryan Phillippe Claims Self-Defense in Ex-Girlfriend's Assault Case

Ryan Phillippe is claiming self-defense in the case brought by his ex-girlfriend, saying he was only trying to prevent her from seeing another woman in his bed.

In the newly filed docs, Phillippe lays out the defense he will use during the October 15 civil trial.

Phillippe is being sued by his ex-girlfriend, Elsie Hewitt, over an alleged assault at his home.

In his docs, the actor details the night when the alleged abuse occurred. He claims to have been looking forward to hanging out with Hewitt for the long 4th of July weekend.

He talks about being disappointed when Hewitt wanted to go to a day party in Malibu. The actor even talks about her choice of outfits. He will testify being “shocked at Hewitt’s see-through outfit and became concerned that his children might see him photographed with the scantily clad young woman at Nobu – a location frequented by paparazzi.”

Phillippe left the party and went home with another female companion. The actor claims he was awoken to loud noises hours later. He accuses Hewitt of breaking into his home and confronting him.

He says Hewitt confronted him at the top of his stairs and in front of his bedroom. Phillippe will testify he “was very concerned about the safety of his female guest present in his bedroom, especially with a loud, angry, inebriated and jealous Hewitt sensing another girl in Phillippe’s bedroom.”

He denies throwing Hewitt down a flight of stairs. Phillippe says he picked her up and fell, which caused her to fall into his arms.

Phillippe says Hewitt did go to the emergency room following the incident. She claimed to suffer chest pains, abrasions and bruising. He claims to be surprised after being contacted by police the following day.

The actor says he will argue he acted in self-defense. He wanted to block Hewitt from finding the other woman in his bed.

Phillippe accuses Hewitt of failing to produce any real medical bills. He is set to face off with his ex-girlfriend next month.

As The Blast first reported, Elsie Hewitt sued the actor for $1 million accusing him of assaulting her at his Los Angeles home. She claimed after an argument with the actor, she went to his house to get her belongings.

Once she arrived, she claimed Phillippe was extremely agitated, grabbed her upper arm “so tightly that his grip left heavy bruises on her arm” and then “braced his body and violently threw her down his staircase as hard as he could.”

The lawsuit alleged the actor abused drugs like “cocaine, ecstasy, psychedelic mushrooms, and steroids.”

Phillippe denied all allegations of assault and accused his ex-girlfriend of trying to extort him with false allegations.

He claimed to have only treated her with “kindness and respect” during their relationship and never physically harmed her.

Phillippe recently lost his bid to keep his ex-girlfriend Paulina Slagter from testifying in the case. Hewitt also shut down the actor’s attempts to block her from obtaining records from LAPD. The actor has tried to block Hewitt from obtaining text messages between him and Witherspoon previously in the case.

Reese Witherspoon was recently named as a witness by Hewitt, who she will call to the stand during the trial.
