Ryan Gosling is grateful for Eva Mendes — both personally and professionally!

The 43-year-old actor opened up about the support he gets from his longtime partner in a chat with Extra at the Los Angeles premiere of The Fall Guy on Tuesday, April 30.

"She is with the girls, and when she works, I stay home with the girls too," Gosling said of his two kids with Mendes, 50: Esmeralda, 9, and Amada, 8. "I couldn’t be here without her."

"She’s also like my acting coach.” Gosling went on, “She has really become the best acting coach I have ever had, it's endless how she helps me.”

Asked about the requests he got from Mendes regarding The Fall Guy, Gosling said, " 'Don’t do fire,' " adding that "it was actually a request from my girls too: Do a stunt movie, but don’t get set on fire.' "

The outlet also asked him about Mendes being featured in PEOPLE's 2024 Beautiful Issue, to which Gosling replied, “It should just be her in the issue, basically, but I understand they have to have other people in there.”

Praising his partner's upcoming children's book Desi, Mami and the Never-Ending Worries — which he promoted on a T-shirt earlier his week! — Gosling told Extra, "I’ll let [Eva] speak for it, it’s such a beautiful book."

"It’s been a few years in the making. We read a lot of kids’ books and it’s one of the best I have read. It’s really about something and beautiful," the three-time Oscar nominee added.

Speaking to PEOPLE for this week's Beautiful Issue, on newsstands Friday, Mendes opened up about how she doesn't "succumb to societal pressure," explaining, "Whatever I want to do, I do."

“I certainly didn’t think I’d have kids and be locked down," the Ghost Rider actress continued. "So I’m really happy that a certain man came into my life and made me change my mind about all that stuff.”

Choosing to leave her acting career behind to focus on her children a decade ago was “the easiest decision” Mendes ever made. And since now she has learned to see “beauty in my imperfections," it's a narrative she's creating for her daughters as well.

“They’re listening, and what I say is powerful,” she told PEOPLE. “When someone radiates joy, I try to be like, ‘Oh, that’s really beautiful.’ Not ‘They’re really beautiful.’ ”

And at the end of the day, Esmeralda and Amada hold her accountable: “It makes me try to be a better person every day.”

The Fall Guy is in theaters Friday, May 3.
