Ryan Gosling, Ken Kao to Launch Arcana Production Company With Emma Stone’s ‘The Favourite’

Ryan Gosling and veteran producer Ken Kao have partnered up to form a new production company called Arcana, which will focus on finding and developing material for film and television.

Arcana’s first official project will be Yorgos Lanthimos’ upcoming film “The Favourite,” starring Emma Stone, Rachel Weisz and Olivia Colman, which just wrapped principal photography in the United Kingdom.

“The Favourite” follows the reign of Queen Anne, the last monarch of the House of Stuarts. For the project, Arcana has partnered with producers Ceci Dempsey of Scarlet Films and Ed Guiney and Lee Magiday of Element Pictures, together with Film4 and Fox Searchlight.

Gosling and Kao recently worked together on Shane Black’s “The Nice Guys” and Terrence Malick’s “Song to Song.” They also previously announced the acquisition of Jeff Lemire’s graphic novel “The Underwater Welder.”

Gosling, who earned an Oscar nomination for “La La Land,” is set to star in Damien Chazelle’s upcoming “First Man.” He also stars in Denis Villeneuve’s “Blade Runner 2049” alongside Harrison Ford.

He wrote, produced and directed his first feature film, “Lost River,” which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2014.

Kao will continue to run his Waypoint Entertainment production banner and BLOOM with partner Alex Walton. Hs production slate includes Scott Cooper’s “Hostiles,” Martin Zandvliet’s “The Outsider,” Destin Daniel Cretton’s “The Glass Castle” and Woody Harrelson’s “Lost in London.”

Gosling is represented by LBI Entertainment, CAA, and Anonymous Content. Kao is represented by WME.
