It might seem like every celeb is riding out the quarantine in style, lounging by expansive pools and complaining about cabin fever from inside their vast mansions. And while that’s largely true, there’s one celebrity couple that’s never quite fit the mold: Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes. Source details confirm that this couple continues to defy expectations in quarantine, looking after their young daughters Esmeralda and Amada without the help of nannies and doing their best to stay sane while cooped up. Sound familiar?
Since Esmeralda, 3, and Amada, 5, came into the picture, we’ve seen a lot less of Mendes in public life and in film — in fact, her last movie role was in 2014 before Amada was born. A source tells Us Weekly that Mendes always planned to focus her life on childcare once she had kids, and that hands-on approach is paying off now.

“Eva has programmed her entire routine and career to ensure family comes first — then work fits in around it,” the source explained, adding that “Ryan is protective of Eva and a very doting dad.”
These days, under lockdown order like everyone else, Mendes is doing her best to keep the kids entertained with their newly acquired free time. And we all know what a walk in the park that is.
“They’re hands-on parents and don’t have any nannies,” a second source explains. “Being confined to their home with two small children is exhausting at times, especially without hired help.” You don’t say.
Meanwhile, Gosling is focusing on his skills in the kitchen. “[Cooking] his big thing,” the first source adds. “He encourages everyone to do it with him. It’s fun for the whole family.”
It shouldn’t be shocking that celebs are taking care of their own kids and cooking their own meals. But it’s a nice reminder that we’re not in this alone.
