Ryan Gosling's Ken Underwear In The Barbie Movie Was A Last Minute Addition That Almost Didn't Happen

Ryan Gosling helped put the finishing touches on Ken's costume in the Barbie movie — and his addition to his 'fit was honestly iconic.

Leading up to the film, costume designer Jacqueline Durran and her team only had 11 weeks to outfit the entire cast.

That includes all of Margot Robbie's incredible looks as well as the background actors who were portraying dozens of different Barbie careers.

With so little time to get things done, costumes were getting put together up until the last minute and even after filming began.

And during one of Ryan's final fittings for the Ken costume that would be used in many promo images, he came up with the viral Ken underwear — a nod to Calvin Klein-branded briefs.

"We just rushed to make it," Jacqueline recently told Vogue in an interview about the film's costumes.

Clearly the effort to get the underwear made paid off because everyone — from diehard Barbie fans to Ryan's wife Eva Mendes — totally loved the detail.

In fact, Eva said it was the one thing she told Ryan she wanted to make sure he kept from the set.

"When I saw [Ryan's Ken photo], when he sent it to me from work, I was like, 'Can I please have that underwear? Please, I never ask for anything,'" Eva said on The Talk in 2022.

She jokingly added, "So, anyway, I do have it. I'm wearing it right now."
