Ryan Gosling has been an Angela Bassett fan for 30 years and counting!

The Fall Guy actor, 43, was participating in a round of questioning during his appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Thursday, May 9, when the host asked him if he has ever requested an autograph from anyone famous.

"The first person I asked was [professional wrestler] The Ultimate Warrior, and he said no," Gosling said. "But the second person I asked — the first person to give it to me — was Ms. Angela Bassett."

"I was 13. I has just seen What's Love Got to Do with It," he recalled of the 1993 film in which Bassett, 65, starred as Tina Turner — a performance that landed the actress her first Oscar nomination.

"It was one of the best performances I've ever seen, and still is," Gosling told Stephen Colbert.

Gosling said the autograph encounter occurred when he ran into Bassett at an AMC movie theater, where she was with actor/comedian Sinbad.

"I don't know if they were with each other; I don't know. They were talking," he said.

The Barbie actor concluded by sharing that "the last person" he got an autograph from was actor and comedian Jim J. Bullock, for longtime partner Eva Mendes.

"She's a big Jim J. Bullock fan," he said.

And the sweet support between Gosling and Mendes, 50, goes both ways. Earlier this month, the actress and mother of two — who shares daughters Esmeralda, 9, and Amada, 8, with Gosling — referenced The Fall Guy on Instagram, posting a side-by-side of the pair in gold outfits in a funny reference to his stuntman character in the movie.

In the post, a shot of Gosling from the film dressed in character as Colt Seavers was spliced next to a photo of Mendes posing for her recent photoshoot with PEOPLE in a gold look to match.

“Do you believe in happy endings?” she captioned in. “Aliana & Space Cowboy together at last.”

In The Fall Guy, Gosling plays a stunt double for the character Space Cowboy (played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson) who has a romance with an alien called Aliana in the fictional movie that is being directed by Emily Blunt's character.

In her post, Mendes playfully referred to herself and Gosling as the two characters. “If you know, you know … ❤️,” the actress added in her post while tagging the movie.

The Fall Guy is now playing in theaters.
