Ryan Fitzpatrick says this Washington team is ‘best situation’ he’s been in as an NFL quarterback

Ryan Fitzpatrick has been around a long time and played for a lot of teams. He’s seen pretty much everything as an NFL quarterback.

In an interview with the “ESPN Daily” podcast, Fitzpatrick reveals this Washington team presents his best opportunity in 17 years as an NFL quarterback.

“This is the best situation I’ve ever been in or the best situation that I’ve ever gone into as the guy,” Fitzpatrick said.

Washington finished the 2020 NFL season ranked No. in total defense. On offense, the Football Team added wide receivers Curtis Samuel, Adam Humphries and Dyami Brown to play alongside No. 1 receiver Terry McLaurin. Washington was No. 30 in total offense a year ago, in part because of inconsistent quarterback play.

I signed to be the starter in Houston, I signed to be the starter in Miami, so this is now the third team that I’ve signed to come in and be the starter for. I just feel like the way that I’m playing the last four years, kind of the progression of my career; it doesn’t really make a whole lot of sense that 17 years in, physically, I feel great, mentally, emotionally, I’m in the right spot. I just think I am set up for success this year and really looking forward to it.

While there remains plenty of folks who doubt Fitzpatrick — and for good reason — there are reasons for optimism. Fitzpatrick appears to be the latest quarterback who has gotten better with age. More importantly, at least recently, his decision-making appears to have improved.

One week from training camp, Fitzpatrick and Washington are happy and excited about the 2021 season. We’ll see where things stand when Fitzpatrick has his first two-turnover game of the season.
