It may be 2021, but there are a lot of firsts still happening for Black-owned beauty brands. Black Opal just announced actor and singer Ryan Destiny as its new brand ambassador.

If you have ever seen Ryan Destiny’s face, then you know the girl turns looks. Destiny explained in a brand video that she’s been a long-time user of Black Opal beauty products.

“I first started using Black Opal when I was 16 or 17, and it just had all of the shades that I needed,” she explains. “It worked for me.”

Not to mention, the actor reiterates her own struggle with searching for a foundation made for her complexion.

“Since I was younger, finding the perfect foundation for my skin was just a little difficult for me,” she says, “but Black Opal, for a long time now, has had my shade and darker.”

Photographer Quil Lemons shot the campaign photos of Destiny for Black Opal. Plus, you can even shop Destiny’s actual look from the campaign photos. Some of the products include the Beautiful Bronze foundation, the True Melanin 12-Well Eyeshadow Palette, and the Oil Absorbing Pressed Powder in Smokin’ Topaz.

Where to shop the brand

Earlier in January, the brand came into Ulta stores as well as the beauty retailer’s online website. However, you can also shop Black Opal Beauty on Amazon and your local drugstore.

“Black Opal, it just sounds and feels empowering; it’s owned by Black people,” she says. “I just hope I can be a great representation for people who feel like they can see themselves through me and through the makeup.”
