New Ruth Bader Ginsburg documentary to chart icon's life through legal, social barriers

Four months after her death, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's legacy lives on in the new trailer for an upcoming documentary about her life.

Directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Freida Lee Mock (Maya Lin: A Strong Clear Vision), In Her Own Words follows Ginsburg's rise to the highest court in the United States, as she overcame social and legal obstacles throughout her life.

Featuring intimate interviews and rare footage of the icon, the film covers Ginsburg's struggle to find a job after law school despite a stellar academic performance, and how she survived "the hostility of the profoundly male universe of government and law" to become a revered Justice who advocated for gender equality during her tenure.

"The film dramatizes a confluence of factors — personal, psychological, social and political that impacted the course of her work and life," the movie's press statement reads. "The film is designed as an immersive experience through the direct words of Ruth Bader Ginsburg as a professor, advocate, Judge and Justice; the use of evocative animation and intimate illustrations to visualize complex constitutional cases."

Ruth: Justice Ginsburg in Her Own Words premieres in virtual cinemas on Feb. 12 and hits VOD on March 9. Watch the trailer above.
