According to Deputy Mayor Serhiy Orlov, the invaders are trying to open the port because there are a lot of metal products left there.

"They have already exported 2-3 thousand tons each,” said Orlov.

“They even had criminal showdowns for this metal. Because it's a lot of money.”

Mariupol had previously been one of Ukraine’s industrial centers, with one of the biggest plants in Ukraine being the Azovstal steelworks. Following a Russian siege at the beginning of the full-scale invasion, more than 90% of Mariupol has been ruined, and the Azovstal steelworks is almost entirely destroyed.
