Russell Crowe on Building Comedic Chemistry With Ryan Gosling: 'Ryan Drinks'

The Nice Guys opens this weekend, featuring two Hollywood heavyweights, Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling, who join forces in what’s being described as a buddy cop comedy.

Writer and director Shane Black is no stranger to this style of movie, having helmed such buddy cop classics as Lethal Weapon, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and The Last Boy Scout. And it’s that experience, according to Gosling, that helped nurture his onscreen chemistry with co-star Crowe.

“He’s just a great writer,” Gosling said of Black. “And it was kind of gravy that Russell and I ended up having so much fun.”

Crowe, on the other hand, jokingly credited something else for the duo’s undeniable chemistry.

“Ryan drinks,” Crowe said. “As long as he has his fifth before we shoot in the morning, he’s going to be funny.”

The Nice Guys opens Friday.
