Russell Brand accused of sexually assaulting an actress on “Arthur” movie set in new lawsuit

Brand was previously accused of rape, sexual assault, and emotional abuse by five women.

An anonymous woman has filed a sexual assault lawsuit against Russell Brand, months after the former actor was accused of rape, sexual assault, and emotional abuse by five women.

In the affidavit, filed Friday in New York and obtained by PEOPLE, an actress referred to as Jane Doe claims that Brand exposed himself to her before assaulting her in a bathroom on the set of the 2011 movie, Arthur, which starred Brand as a wealthy alcoholic philanderer.

The filing names Brand and distributor Warner Bros. Pictures and Warner Bros. Discovery as defendants, alongside production companies MBST Entertainment, BenderSpink, and Langley Park Productions.

According to court documents, the woman said that Brand "appeared intoxicated, smelled of alcohol, and was carrying a bottle of vodka on set" on July 7, 2010, before he exposed his penis to her "in full view of the cast and crew." The affidavit adds that "later that same day," Brand sexually assaulted her in a bathroom "as a member of the production crew guarded the door from outside." The woman further alleged that though she was booked for the movie for three days, she was not brought back for the second or third day, following the alleged assault. She also claims that she "was only paid for one day of work."

Representatives for Brand and Warner Bros did not immediately respond to EW's request for comment.

In the affidavit, the Jane Doe requests continued anonymity throughout the prosecution, for fear of public "retaliation."

"I still maintain my career as an actor, and I am terrified of being blacklisted in the industry or suffering other negative effects beyond what I already suffered if my name is associated with a sexual assault lawsuit against others in the industry," the woman stated in the filing. "I cannot bear to imagine my career that I love being jeopardized at this point in my life."

This latest accusation comes after The U.K. Times, The Sunday Times, and U.K. network Channel 4's television series Dispatches launched a joint investigation into Brand, and published reports detailing "controlling, abusive, and predatory behavior" between the years of 2006 and 2013. In the initial September 2023 report, four separate women claim to have been sexually assaulted by the actor. The Metropolitan Police later confirmed to EW that they received a report and are investigating an alleged attack that took place in 2003.

Brand denied the allegations from the Times' article through a YouTube video titled "So, This Is Happening." The former actor, who has stepped away from Hollywood and become a controversial YouTube wellness guru, said he "absolutely" refuted the "serious allegation," claiming that all of his relationships were "consensual." He added that the claims were "extremely egregious and aggressive attacks."
