The Rush: Le’Veon sits in Pitt and a questionable statue stands in Philly

The contract dispute between Le’Veon Bell and the Steelers has reached full boil. The running back has been holding out ever since Pittsburgh slapped the franchise tag on him. Yesterday, Bell’s agent announced that the star player was “going to do the things necessary to protect his value long-term.” That news didn’t sit well at Steelers camp where veterans felt that Le’Veon was putting the needs of his wallet over the needs of the team. Whether Bell sits out the season or reluctantly accepts the franchise tag, it’s pretty clear that the marriage between the running back and his team is irreparably damaged.

A statue commemorating the Eagles win over the Patriots in Super Bowl 52 was erected outside of Lincoln Financial Field yesterday. It depicts the now-famous conversation between quarterback Nick Foles and head coach Doug Pederson in which the QB suggests running “The Philly Special” on fourth down. The quote “Do you want Philly Philly?”, the date of the Super Bowl and the Bud Light logo are engraved on the base. The statue is scheduled to remain outside the stadium for the whole year. But the possibility remains that it could become a permanent fixture outside the Eagles’ home nest.
