The Rush: Assault of Masai Ujiri off court is why Black Lives Matter is painted on it

LeBron James took some heat from a few high profile former Celtics after the Lakers dropped Game 1, the Mavericks and Jazz tied each of their series while the Raptors and Celtics both took commanding leads in theirs, and bodycam footage of a bay area deputy shoving Raptors president Masai Ujiri proves the officer was dishonest in his account of the incident. PLUS: The LA spotlight is getting crowded, a Boston legend claims to have averaged 1500 claps per game, and the Nets final play broke Charles Barkley.

PAUL PIERCE: If they don't win this year and LeBron's not getting any younger. This is going to be a big hit on his legacy. And I've already said he's not a top five player of all time. If the Lakers don't win a championship, let alone lose in the first round, I don't want to hear none of this GOAT talk no more.

JARED QUAY: Paul Pierce is right. 1 seed should not be losing to 3 seeds. But then again, the truth also said LeBron's not a top five player.

- Um, what?

JARED QUAY: So maybe we should hear what another former Celtic thinks the Lakers should do in game 2.

KENDRICK PERKINS: You can't have Dion Waiters and JR Smith over there on the bench for what? To average 1,500 claps like I did towards the end of my career? No!

JARED QUAY: We'll find out tonight if Frank Vogel picks up what Perk is putting down. But first, we got to talk about LA's other team. Last night, the Clippers had the chance to stand alone in the LA spotlight but couldn't take advantage.

The refs were nice enough to let Kristaps Porzingis play the whole game, and Dallas got the dub to tie the series at one a piece. The Sixers got a monster game from Joel Embiid, but it wasn't enough because Jayson Tatum had one of his own. He helped Boston take a 2-0 series lead with their game 2 beat down of Philly. I mean, they won by like 23 points or something. It was big.

- Here's a rerun of your last beat down.

JARED QUAY: Meanwhile, Utah and Denver are all tied. The Jazz were lead by Jordan Clarkson, who scored 26 off the bench. And Rudy Gobert wasn't in a joking mood.

RUDY GOBERT: Ah!

JARED QUAY: The Raptors took a 2-0 lead over the Nets in a game so sloppy that this is what Charles Barkley had to say about the last play.

CHARLES BARKLEY: Oh, my goodness. What the hell was that?

JARED QUAY: But even that wasn't yesterday's ugliest Raptor highlight. Earlier this year, Raptors GM Masai Ujiri was sued by a Bay Area deputy. He claims Ujiri assaulted him at Oracle Arena right after the Raptors won the title. And yesterday, footage of the altercation was finally released.

- [INAUDIBLE] [BLEEP] man. Who the fuck are you pushing?

- Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey! Stop, stop, stop.

MASAI UJIRI: They just asked for us at mid-court.

- [BLEEP] pushing.

JARED QUAY: Now, I know there's a lot going on, and it's tough to hear. But one thing's pretty clear. If there's an aggressor here, it ain't Ujiri. Damn, you see what happened? They win so much in the Bay Area they just don't know how to take an L.

The Raptors GM is filing a countersuit. And it'd be great to say that they'll probably win. I mean, obviously, he deserves to. But there is a reason why Black Lives Matter needs to be painted on those NBA courts.

FRED VANVLEET: Obviously, we are all privileged. And Masai is pretty privileged in his world. And you just stop and think about, you know, how good we got it. There's people who are going to be in that same situation walking down the street who don't have money to fight the case, who don't have 30, you know, 20,000 people in the stands.

NORMAN POWELL: But it's exactly what we're fighting for, you know, for justice to be served to those cops that are, you know, taking the law a little bit into their own hands, you know, and unnecessarily.
