“RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars” kicked off its 9th season on Friday, May 17 with the first two episodes featuring returning queens from seasons past. In the sister series “Untucked,” now in its 6th “All Stars” season, the queens throw back a cocktail and dish the dirt backstage on the latest challenge. Check out our recap of “Untucked” episode 1 below.

This week the queens wrote and choreographed a group number to the original song “Drag Queens Save the World” in honor of the work they’re doing this season to earn money for charity. Prior to RuPaul Charles announcing the official top two performers of the week and the first to earn the coveted Beautiful Benefactress Badge, the girls got to react to what the new twists this season could mean for the competition.

As a group, they were proud of their “sickening” song and believe that it’s a “stacked” season that the fandom would go crazy for. Shannel said that “they assembled an amazing cast for this show,” to which everyone agreed that there is stiff competition. Nina West said it was particularly inspiring to her to be able to compete alongside Shannel because she was one of the first queens to be on the show and they’re all here because of the work she’s put into the industry. Shannel passed the compliments over to Roxxxy Andrews, calling her her own “favorite drag queen.”

Plastique Tiara said that the first experience hearing critiques from the judges was “very touching” because of how supportive Ru and the rest of them were. Overall, the queens thought that Jorgeous, Vanessa Vanjie Mateo, Gottmik and Angeria Paris VanMichaels all received the kind of critiques that could lead to top placements. Roxxxy was more interested in hearing from the girls about how they’re going to approach the cuts that the winners will have to make. Angie said that “there’s no establish frontrunner yet” so it’s hard and Vanjie said she’ll base it on which challenge she will anticipate the following week and who might be the strongest at it.

Later, Keke Palmer popped in and discussed makeup tutorials, astrological signs, and discussed what they’re most excited about showing this season. They all agreed that the runways are what they’re anticipating the most because like Plastique said it’s a “presentation of your character.” In their final moments backstage, the queens debate whether they’d change outfits for the potential lip sync and then returned to the Main Stage to find out that this week’s top two were Angie and Jorgeous. After Angie’s triumph in the lip sync, Angie cut Roxxxy off from earning a Badge next week. Roxxxy reacted positively, understanding that Angie did what she needed to do, but also promised “karma.”
