RuPaul's Drag Race Recap: [Spoiler] Eliminated in Last-Minute Twist

Friday’s Drag Race cast the remaining 11 queens in Kardashians: The Musical, described as a “hip-hop herstory lesson and a lip syncing extravganza all in one.” But not everyone was able to, ahem, keep up.

Memories of high school theater came rushing back to me as the queens bitched and bickered over who would get to play each member of the Kardashian crew, with Nina Bo’nina Brown taking home the award of Saltiest Starlet for having to play Khloé when she really wanted Blac Chyna. (Look, Nina, I nailed my audition for Carousel my senior year, but they still cast me as a mute carnival worker, OK? You take what you get and you like it.)

Much to my surprise, however, Kardashians: The Musical was actually, dare I say, kind of brilliant. Sure, the re-telling of Kim’s rise to fame in the style of Hamilton reads like pure lunacy on paper, but the queens totally sold it. (Well, most of them.) Farrah Moan gave an uninspiring performance as Kylie Jenner, while Cynthia Lee Fontaine — in the leading role of Kim, no less! — simply couldn’t nail the lip syncing. (In Cynthia’s defense, English isn’t her first language, but at the same time, it’s not like they were asking her to mouth along to Sondheim lyrics. This was extremely doable for her, and she just… didn’t.) Farrah and Cynthia’s shortcomings landed them both in the bottom two.

Fortunately for the bottom queens, the results of their lip sync battle — to the tune of Meghan Trainor’s “Woman Up” — turned out to be irrelevant, as a Drag Race staffer rushed in to deliver a message to RuPaul just as she was about to announce her decision. It turned out that Eureka, still hobbling around on crutches after the same cheerleading challenge that left Charlie Hides with a broken rib, would be the queen going home this week.

But is this really the last we’ve seen of Eureka? We’ll have the answer in our Q&A, posting at 10/9c tonight. In the meantime, drop a comment with your thoughts on this week’s Drag Race below.
