Rumer Willis is opening up about trying different things as a new mom.

The actress and girl mom, 35, appears on the very first episode of Bumpsuit’s new podcast, The Village, in a clip shared exclusively with PEOPLE. Willis opens up to host and Bumpsuit founder Nicole Trunfio about trying elimination communication with daughter Louetta Isley, 8 months, whom she shares with partner Derek Richard Thomas.

After talking about wanting to explore cloth diapering further, the Once Upon a Time ... in Hollywood actress spoke about the method, which suggests babies offer cues that allow parents to get them to a potty, lessening and, in some cases, eliminating the need for diapers.

"It's incredible. It's so validating," Willis says of the process. "We got a little potty. Derek even has a little potty song he plays for her."

After some encouragement from Trunfio, Willis sings a small bit of the song, going, "Poopin' on the potty ... poopin' on the potty ... elimination ... communication," in a sing-song voice.

"It's so silly, but it's all about taking your baby's cues. Mind you, I have the privilege right now that I've gotten to spend every day with her. I haven't had to go back to work, so I totally understand that there are challenges that way."

Willis says that she and Thomas started to notice their daughter would "make these funny faces and she would start to furrow her brow and her mouth would look like she was sucking on a straw."

Imitating the face, she continues, "And then, I would hear her poop and it was super loud. So then we got this little potty and when she would make the face, we would just pull her diaper off and sit her on it."

"Now if I can catch it, it's so delightful," she says, explaining, "Babies have bodily awareness, so they don't want to poop themselves. We train them out of it by putting them in diapers and look, there's no way I can catch all of her pees. They don't make a cue for it, or maybe they do if you're super, super aware. But I try to get as many as I can and it's awesome. I think it's so great."

Willis and Bumpsuit also shared some behind-the-scenes photos on a community walk, where the new mom was joined by other mom friends, all donning their Bumpsuit Armadillo Baby Carriers in "Lou Blue."

Speaking of their conversation, Trunfio tells PEOPLE, "With my vision of empowering women and amplifying the voices of mothers, I am dedicated to establishing a secure space where women can openly share their motherhood stories, fostering a culture of exchange and collective evolution."

"With these unfiltered conversations, The Village podcast aims to raise awareness, while building an invaluable library of resources and knowing that you are not alone on this journey. I’m especially excited to kick off this first season with Rumer, who is an absolute goddess," she continues.

The Village will delve into deep reflections on pregnancy and postpartum, narratives surrounding childbirth, loss, mental health, and the complex journey of motherhood, with Trunfio engaging in these conversations with celebrities, midwives, psychiatrists, doulas, entrepreneurs, and more. Some guests for the show's first season will include Allyson Felix, Miranda Kerr, Ty Haney, and Dr. Paul Crane (Beyoncé and Kim Kardashian’s OB-GYN).

"I love that we get to share with our moms all the things that make Rumer so... Rumer," Trunfio says. "I’m particularly inspired by her deep calling for motherhood."
