In December 2023, his fiancée, Vivian Benitez, announced her engagement to The Diplomat star on Instagram. The first image showcased her diamond engagement ring and the second was a shot of Sewell kissing her on the cheek as she held her ring-clad hand up in front of the actor's face.

"Till death (or him continuing to walk on bathmats with his outside shoes) do us part," she joked in her caption.

While it's unclear when the newly-engaged couple met, they've been supporting one another at public events since July 2021. However, Benitez has posted glimpses of what appears to be Sewell (without showing his face) on her Instagram since February 2020.

Public appearances aside, the pair keep their relationship generally private. However, Benitez often pens romantic captions to her fiancé (who doesn't have a public Instagram) on her social media.

Benitez is an actress in her own right, having held roles in various projects across television and film. Her acting credits include Arsenal, Criminal Minds and the short films Sky Dancers Grow Up and Don't Worry, It's Gonna Be OK.

She's a former model scout

Benitez is a former Wilhelmina model scout, a job she took on in her early 20s following her move to Los Angeles. At the start of her career, she was L.A.'s youngest model scout and a key player in expanding the top agency's scouting perimeters into the digital space.

In 2018, Snapchat launched a series titled, Vivian. The now-defunct show gave viewers an inside look into Benitez's life as she chased her model scout dreams across New York and L.A.

"I'm not here to say the right things all the f—king time. I'm here to speak my truth even if it's f—king wrong," Benitez admits in a clip from the series. "It might not be your truth, but you're f—king stuck with it 'cause you're watching my show."

Despite keeping their romance on the down low, Benitez and Sewell have stepped out alongside each other at a couple of public events. They walked the red carpet together at the premiere of Old in July 2021 and most recently, the premiere of Benitez's Netflix series The Diplomat in May 2023.

Red carpet appearances aside, Benitez has publicized her relationship with Sewell on her social media. While the British actor doesn't have a public Instagram of his own, she's sure to highlight him on her page.

In March 2023, Benitez shared photos from her birthday party, including one of the couple embracing on a couch. "Just got over the hangover from my birthday party 4 months ago so here are some pics from it. I ❤️ my people and a good ol fashion house party," she wrote in the caption.

In August 2022, Benitez posted a series of photos from a trip to Wales including one of her and the Victoria star kissing on the beach. "3 days of bliss on the Pembrokeshire coast with my mama and my love," she captioned the post.

In October 2021, Benitez posted a birthday tribute to Sewell, writing, "forever 💞 happy birthday best friend."

She announced her engagement to Rufus Sewell in December 2023

Benitez announced her engagement to Sewell on Dec. 6, 2023. The proposal appears to have taken place in Italy, as the actress shared a photo of herself standing in front of the Trevi Fountain the night before announcing the news.

"3am in Rome," she captioned the post.

While it's unclear when and how the newly-engaged couple met, Benitez has been posting glimpses of her relationship since February 2020. At the time, the caption in one of her posts implied she's been dating the person since 2019.

"1 year of being in love has really taken my personality hostage. pray for its safe return," Benitez wrote alongside an image that featured the back of man hugging her as she smiled for the camera.

She has been candid about her and Rufus Sewell's 30-year age difference

Benitez, who is 30 years younger than Sewell, has poked fun at the difference between her and her fiancé on social media.

"Please pass on to anyone worried about our age difference, that it’s ok now- i turned 27 this morning," she captioned a photo on Instagram, one day after announcing their engagement news.

In February 2020, she clapped back at several accounts who commented "sugar daddy" on her Instagram post. "right, because a woman being with an older man cant possibly be a personal choice instead of a financial one? i got my own bag thank u for the concern 💰" she wrote in the comment section.
