Election Night 2020 is getting a second look now that Special Counsel Jack Smith has indicted Donald Trump in the Jan. 6, 2021, federal case in his alleged attempts to overturn the results. Well, it seems that the activities of the former president’s then-personal attorney Rudy Giuliani from that night are being questioned.

Giuliani’s drinking, not only on Election Day but in the days after, is being investigated by Smith, according to Rolling Stone. The issue is that Donald Trump may have been taking advice from “an inebriated attorney” in the days and weeks leading up to the Jan. 6 insurrection. Several sources told the media outlet that Smith’s team is curious about the former New York City mayor’s coherency while offering solutions to Donald Trump on “how to cling to power.”

If the former president knew that Giuliani was not of sound mind, it puts forth credible evidence that Donald Trump “behaved with willful recklessness in his attempts nullify the 2020 election.” It also adds another layer to the “crazy” conspiracy theories the duo spouted in the weeks after the Republicans lost the White House. Whispers of Giuliani’s issue with alcohol are not new because he even refuted the rumors in 2021. “I’m not an alcoholic,” he told NBC New York. “I probably function more effectively than 90 percent of the population.”

However, witnesses reportedly told the investigative team that Donald Trump, who is a teetotaler, was well aware of Giuliani’s drinking issues. There are also reports of Giuliani “consuming significant quantities of alcohol,” and suffering from alcohol breath on Election Night and other days in the White House. The men might have been so drunk on maintaining power that Donald Trump turned the other way when it came to Giuliani’s alleged drinking problems.
