“When the Rubber Hit the Road” premiering in Eau Claire

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – It’s a local story you may know very well and is now becoming a documentary that premieres in Eau Claire on Friday (5/2/24).

This Summer marks 32 years since the Uniroyal Tire plant left Eau Claire for good. Devastating the community both economically and socially.

Now, filmmakers B.J. Hollars and Steve Dayton with Fireside Productions are bringing the story back into the limelight with their new film. Dayton says,  ‘When Rubber Hit the Road.’ “I really wish that what people would find, and will discover, (is) the empathy in them. To see the heartache and the struggles that all of us go through. It’s not just the tire workers, but it’s families.”

‘When Rubber Hits the Road’ premieres this Friday at 7 pm at the Pablo Center. There will be opening remarks from Local 19 President Derrell Wekkin and a Q & A with many of the ‘Rubber Heads’ who worked at the plant.
