Friday, Sept. 1
Pueblo Farmers Market at Mineral Palace Park
1600 N. Santa Fe Ave. | 7 a.m.-noon each Friday through Oct. 13 | Also runs 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Saturday through Sept. 16 at the JCPenny parking lot, Pueblo Mall, 3429 Dillion Drive | Locally grown fresh produce, handmade goods, cottage foods and specialty items. The market accepts and encourages payments through SNAP/EBT cards, Double Up Food Bucks, the WICFarmers Market Nutrition Program and Centura's Fresh to Flourish produce prescription program.
First Friday Art Walk at Steel City Art Works
216 S. Union | 5-8 p.m. | Opening reception for "There's a Chile in the Air" art exhibit and the "Urban Sketchers of Pueblo" display. Complimentary refreshments will be served. The shows will run through the month. The gallery is open free to the public Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m.
'Transcending Duality' at Pueblo Heritage Museum
201 W. B St. | 5-8 p.m. | The collaborative art exhibition features the visionary works of artists Deadhand and L. Savas, inviting viewers to contemplate the synthesis of contrasting elements and to explore the unity within diversity. Both artists will be present for the opening. The show will run through Sept. 30.
First Friday Art Opening at Liminal Space Gallery
107 S. Grand Ave. | 5-8 p.m. | The Pueblo Arts Alliance event will feature collaborative works of members and friends of the Creative Consortium of Pueblo. The goal is to help provide financial support as well as draw attention to the consortium. Complimentary refreshments and light hors d’oeuvres will be served, plus visitors can partake of the Van Gogh Van free shuttle.
First Friday Opening Reception at Blo Back Gallery
131 Spring St. | 6-9 p.m. | The show will feature Sarah Stanifer's, "Sculpting Self-Love: Clay Bodies Abstracted” and Jim Richerson´s installation, "ARTEOLOGY: A Walk Through the Pandemic." Richerson will give an artist's talk at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2. The show runs through Sept. 22.
'Tradiciones Sagradas' opening at Sangre de Cristo Arts Center
210 N. Santa Fe | 4-6 p.m. | The intricate craftsmanship and attention to detail on Santos and retablo artworks will showcase layers of symbolism, allowing for multi-dimensional interpretations that transcend the surface level. Through the interplay of colors, patterns, and forms, artists communicate profound narratives of creation, transformation, and the cyclical nature of existence. The exhibit runs through Jan. 14. Cost is free during First Friday Art Walk. Regular admission is $10 for adults, or $8 for children, military or seniors 65 or older.
Saturday, Sept. 2
Pueblo Chile Day at the Colorado State Fair
1001 Beulah Ave. | 11 a.m. | Fresh, certified Pueblo chile roasting starts at 11 a.m. and handmade Pueblo chile wraps will be available. Get a map of all the local farm stands. The World Slopper Eating Contest is set for 3 p.m. on the Pepsi Stage.
Monday, Sept. 4
Pups in the Pool at City Park Pool
221 S. Parkside Lane | Sessions run 9-11 am. and noon-2 p.m. | Cost is $5 per dog. Bring your favorite four-legged pal for a dip and enjoy some good family fun. Dogs must be licensed and vaccinated. Small dogs will use the wading pool. Owners are welcome to bring dog toys.
Closing Day for The Rides at City Park
3425 Nuckolls Ave. | 5-9 p.m. | Bring the family for the last day of the season. Tickets are 25 cents each.

Community art exhibit at Pueblo Commuity College

Orman Ave., San Juan Building, room 205 | Open to the public 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday until Oct. 27 with an opening reception from 5-7 p.m. Sept. 15 | The free exhibit will feature the works of local sculptor Eric McCue. Parking is available next to the building in the lot on Marilyn Place.

Historical presentation at Pueblo Community College
Hoag Theater, 900 W. Orman Ave. | 7 p.m. | Colorado College History Professor Amy Kohout will give a presentation on the experiences of U.S. soldiers during the Indian and Philippine-American Wars. She is the author of “Taking the Field: Soldiers, Nature, and Empire on American Frontiers.” The free presentation is open to the public and is sponsored by the college history club and Pueblo Archaeological & Historical Society. The Hoag Theater is on the lower level of the Mike Davis Academic Building on the corner of Orman Avenue and Arthur Street.

Pueblo West Fire Station No. 2 groundbreaking
715 S. MuCulloch Blvd., west | 9 a.m. | The public is invited to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the $5.35 million Pueblo West Fire Station No. 2 which will be built by Nunn Construction for the Pueblo West Metro District. Post-event refreshments will be served at the old Station No. 2, 529 South Avenida Del Oro East.
Deadline to register for Senior Safari event at the Pueblo Zoo
3455 Nuckolls Ave. | Senior week runs Sept. 10-16, featuring free admission for anyone age 65 or older and their caregivers thanks to sponsor Health Solutions. The event features coffee and donuts (Sept. 11-15). The Wednesday, Sept. 13, Senior Safari features live music, animal presentations, games, vendor booths, pizza lunch and more. Reserved tables for Senior Safari are available for $25 by registering at pueblozoo.org/senior-week. Senior Week wraps up with International Red Panda Conservation Day on Saturday, Sept. 16.
Colton's Heroes Minature Golf Tournament fundraiser at Copper River
395 S. Angus Ave., Pueblo West | noon-2 p.m. for ages 12 and younger; 2-4 p.m. for ages 13-20; and 4-6 p.m. for ages 21 and older | Parents and grandparents can sign up to play with the kids. Cake walks will be held at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Cost is $25 per team of two. A silent auction and 50/50 raffle also will be held to raise funds for Colton's Heroes, a nonprofit organization that helps children and families dealing with cancer. Murder Mystery Dinner Theater at SonRise Church

Spaulding Ave., Pueblo West | 6 p.m. Friday and again at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9 | The "Murder at the Pueblo West Casino" fundraiser features a murder mystery play, spaghetti dinner and silent auction. Proceeds benefit a mission trip to Sierra Leone. Cost is $60 per person and tickets are available at eventbrite.com.

Convoy of Hope at Midtown Shopping Center

Sixth St., back parking lot | 10 a.m. | The free community event features groceries, hot lunch, nutrition education, health services, a kids zone, children's shoes, family portraits, community and veterans services, haircuts, breast health services, prayer, gardening supplies, plus job and career services. It is the first time that Convoy of Hope has been in Pueblo since 2009. The event is sponsored by local businesses, organizations and churches. No identification is required.
