‘RRR’ Star Ram Charan Sets Film Project With ‘Pushpa’ Filmmaker Sukumar (EXCLUSIVE)

Its raining Ram Charan projects in India. A few days after “RRR” star Ram Charan‘s 16th film was unveiled. Now, the team has been revealed for his 17th.

Charan’s 17th film will be directed by “Pushpa” director Sukumar. The director, Mythri Movie Makers and composer Devi Sri Prasad are re-teaming after 2018 blockbuster hit “Rangasthalam.” The project is currently identified as “RC17.” While plot details have not yet been revealed, production is scheduled to commence production later this year, and the film will release in the last quarter of 2025.

Charan’s next release will be “Game Changer,” directed by S. Shankar, who also has Kamal Hassan starrer “Indian 2” in the works.

Charan’s 16th’s film, identified as “RC16,” is being produced by Venkata Satish Kilaru for Vriddhi Cinemas and is presented by Mythri Movie Makers and Sukumar via his Sukumar Writings. Janhvi Kapoor (“Mili”) will star alongside Charan. Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman (“Slumdog Millionaire”) will provide the music. Chandrabose, who wrote the Oscar and Golden Globe-winning “Naatu Naatu” song in “RRR” will write the lyrics. Cinematography is by R. Rathnavelu (“Rangasthalam”), editing is by Antony L. Ruben (“Jawan”) and action choreography by Supreme Sunder (“Animal”). The crew also includes art director Avinash Kolla (“Major”) and costume designer Deepali Noor (“Pushpa”).

Sukumar’s 2021 blockbuster film “Pushpa: The Rise — Part 1,” starring Allu Arjun, was also produced by Mythri Movie Makers. It traced the rise of Pushpa Raj (Arjun), a laborer who rises through the ranks of a red sandalwood smuggling syndicate and faces off against an egotistical police officer. The Telugu-language film was also dubbed into other Indian languages and went on to become India’s biggest box office hit of 2021. Arjun won best actor at India’s National Film Awards for the film.

The sequel, “Pushpa 2: The Rule” is in production and is due to be released this year. “You can definitely expect part three, we do want to make it a franchise and we have exciting ideas for the lineup,” Arjun had told Variety.
