Royals starter Brady Singer is a name to watch
D.J. Short explains why Royals starter Brady Singer is someone to keep to tabs on after a few of his underlying metrics jumped out in 2020.

DJ SHORT: Despite making just 26 minor league starts since being drafted out of the University of Florida, Royals right-hander Brady Singer held his own in the majors last year, posting a 4.06 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP over 12 starts. The 24-year-old was especially impressive down the stretch, allowing one run or fewer in three out of his final four starts. This included a no-hit bid against the Indians on September 10th.
Singer is sort of in a different mold than many pitchers today as he doesn't throw especially hard, and he mostly tries to induce ground balls with his two-seamer, slider mix. He was very good at limiting barrels from opposing batters last year. And he ranked first among qualified pitchers in called strike percentage, and ninth among qualified pitchers in combined called strike and width percentage, a statistic developed by our friends at Pitcher List.
There's been some question about Singer's ability to add a third pitch. And his game plan doesn't necessarily suggest he's going to make the leap to a top flight fantasy starter. But he did enough last year to find a spot on the back end of mixed rotations this draft season. Singer is a name to watch.
