Netflix’s The Crown, poised to drop Season 5 on November 6, is irrefutable proof of America’s continuing fascination with England’s royal family. The series opens with Elizabeth’s wedding to Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, in 1947 and Season 4 wraps with the resignation of longtime Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

Along the way, the series, created and principally written by Peter Morgan, delivers all the insider drama and palace intrigue one would expect in a series about the royals. The series is produced for Netflix by Left Bank Pictures and Sony Pictures Television.

Reinforcing its popularity, after the death of Queen Elizabeth II on September 8, the show’s first two seasons bounced back into Netflix’s Top 10 shows, according to the streaming service.

Season 5 will introduce a host of new actors in the principal roles. Imelda Staunton (Harry Potter, Downton Abby: A New Era) will play Queen Elizabeth II, following in the royal slippers of Claire Foy (Seasons 1 and 2) and Olivia Colman (Seasons 3 and 4).

Lesley Manville (Phantom Thread, Mum) will play the queen’s sister, Princess Margaret. She follows Vanessa Kirby and Helena Bonham Carter in the role.

Jonathan Pryce will play the queen’s husband Prince Philip. Pryce has already made The Two Popes for Netflix, and takes the baton from Matt Smith and Tobias Menzies.

Elizabeth Debicki (The Great Gatsby, Everest) will take on the role of Princess Diana, following Emma Corrin, who played the part in Season 4. Dominic West (The Wire, The Affair) rounds out the conflicted couple as Prince Charles. Josh O’Connor was in the role for Seasons 3 and 4.

Other new characters include Senan West, Dominic West’s son, who will play Prince William; Olivia Williams (Camila Parker Bowles); Jonny Lee Miller (PM John Major); Bertie Carvel (PM Tony Blair); Humayun Saeed (Dr. Hasnat Khan); and Khalid Adballa (Dodi Fayed).
