The royal family is always busy, so if there’s a convenient way to set-up get-togethers, you know they’ll be in on it. Still, we were surprised to lean that the royal family has a WhatsApp group chat. Yep, apparently, whether they’re setting up playdates between the kids or planning a family outing, the royal family has been using the app for their convenience for some time.
On Good Morning Britain, Mike Tindall — married to Queen Elizabeth II’s granddaughter, Zara Tindall — shared the royal family secret for how they all manage to plan with and around one another. “It’s just what you do to try and set up get-togethers and we are going to something that is the same,” Tindall shared. “If you are going to go, ‘Are you going to take the kids?’ Quite a lot of people have family WhatsApp groups. I don’t think it’s a new revelation,” he continued. Well, maybe not for most families, but for the royal family? It feels like a revelation to us.

The Tindall’s group chat, according to People, also includes some of Zara Tindall’s cousins, which means Prince William and Prince Harry are likely in on the conversations. “Me, my brother and then a few of Zara’s side like her brother Pete and the cousins are on WhatsApp groups,” Mike Tindall shared with The Daily Mirror in 2018.
Naturally, with such an extensive family, we can’t help but imagine the group chats get a bit overwhelming from time to time. “I wouldn’t say we’re cutting edge, but it’s just easier for some reason on WhatsApp,” Tindall continued. “I’m in about 25,000 groups. You might do it for a get-together and just stay on the group, and occasionally people will post. You’re scared to leave because you don’t want to be seen to be rude.”
Given the number of outings we’ve seen from the royal family, including Duchess Kate and Duchess Meghan’s quasi-playdate for their children at the King Power Royal Charity Polo Day in July, we’d like to think that the two royals just pinged each other on the app to set up their meeting. Can we get some screenshots?
