Prince Harry has apparently worked out his security detail for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games in the U.K. because he is confirmed for the May 8 celebration. While that should be a momentous occasion for everyone in the royal family since the Duke of Sussex launched the philanthropic initiative while he was in his senior role, the palace is making it very clear where they stand with Harry on this special day.

As of right now, no one from the royal family is expected to join him as he gives a reading at St. Paul’s Cathedral next week, according to the Daily Mail. He is likely going to attend the event solo and then jet off to Nigeria with wife Meghan Markle to enjoy “traditional cultural activities” in the country. The duo was invited by Nigeria’s chief of defense staff after interacting at the Invictus Games in Germany last year. The country might also be courting Harry and Meghan to host the sporting event there in the future.

The celebratory service in the U.K. will only highlight the royal family feud even further. King Charles III is back to his engagement schedule, but he still isn’t expected to attend despite a slight warming between father and son over recent months. Queen Camilla and Prince William aren’t BFFs with Harry right now, but it would have been nice if Princess Anne or Prince Edward showed some family support for the Invictus Games, which have been a notable success for the Duke of Sussex.

The Invictus Games are going to be hard for the palace to ignore, though. The British government is wooing Harry hard for the 2027 games in Birmingham — and they are throwing money at backing the bid to the tune of $32 million. “I’m thrilled that the Government is backing the UK’s bid to host the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham,” wrote the Defence Secretary Grant Shapps on X in March. “This demonstrates our commitment to stand with our Armed Forces and recognise their heroic contribution to defend the nation. The Invictus Games showcase and support wounded, injured and sick service personnel, veteran and their families who continue their recovery through the power of sport.”

It seems heartbreaking that not a single member of the palace can bother to show up for Harry. (Meghan is likely out due to Prince Archie’s fifth birthday on May 6.) It shows that despite the Duke of Sussex’s best efforts with his dad, the crushing response proves that moving to the U.S. was the best course of action in the long run.
