Royal Family Cooking Through the Years: Prince William Makes Pudding With Prince George, Princess Kate Flips Pancakes and More

Noodle prince! Pancake princess! The royal family isn’t afraid to get their hands dirty in the kitchen — both for the cameras and at home together. Over the years, Prince William and Princess Kate — who have been photographed making noodles and flipping pancakes — have joked about their cooking skills, revealing who is the better chef. “William has to put up with my cooking most of the time," the Princess of Wales teased during a June 2016 gala dinner in support of East Anglia's Children's Hospices (EACH). Her husband played along, quipping, “It’s the reason I’m so skinny!” Three years later, the married couple faced off during the A Berry Royal Christmas special to make the best roulade. Kate was teamed up with professional baker and former Great British Bake Off judge Mary Berry while the Prince of Wales worked alongside GBBO season 6 winner Nadiya Hussain. During the show, the princess revealed that her spouse, with whom she shares children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, “sometimes” cooks for her at home. “He’s very good at breakfast,” she told Berry. Kate noted that William’s kitchen know-how played a large part in their early relationship. “In our university days he used to cook all sorts of meals,” she added with a laugh. “I think that’s when he was trying to impress me, Mary!” The Duchess of Cambridge revealed that her partner liked to whip up “Bolognese sauce and things like that” when the two began dating at the University of St. Andrews before tying the knot in April 2011. The couple’s love of cooking has sprinkled down to their children. George, for example, stole the show when he adorably tried to stir up his family’s Christmas pudding in December 2019 alongside his father, grandfather King Charles III and late grandmother Queen Elizabeth II. (Her Majesty died in September 2022 at age 96.) The royals joined together at the time to kick off the Royal British Legion’s Together at Christmas campaign. During the event, the four generations gave fans a glimpse at one of their favorite holiday recipes. While celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in June 2022, Kate enlisted the help of all three kids to bake vanilla cupcakes. "Baking cakes for the local community in Cardiff to enjoy at a Platinum Jubilee street party taking place today! 🎉," she captioned the video montage of the family fun. "We hope you like them! 🧁. " William and Kate aren’t the only royals who like to cook. Prince Harry and wife Meghan Markle have shown off their own skills over the years, with the Duchess of Sussex once gifting the women of the World Central Kitchen in Chicago a homemade cake in honor of Women’s History Month. “WCK worked with Archewell, [Harry and Meghan’s] non-profit, to provide meals & share a message of appreciation & support in Chicago, ” the organization tweeted in May 2021. “Dessert was a lemon olive oil cake baked by The Duchess – with lemons from her garden!” More than one year later, Meghan gave fans a glimpse at how her and Harry’s son, Archie, was already following in her baking footsteps. The couple shared a photo of the little one baking in their California home as part of the December 2022 Harry & Meghan Netflix docuseries.
