There's a new royal baby in Luxembourg —  Princess Alexandra and Nicholas Bagory are parents!

On May 14, the Grand Ducal Court announced that the only daughter of Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa and her husband have welcomed their first child — a daughter named Victoire.

"The Grand Duke and Grand Duchess have the great joy to announce the birth of their granddaughter Victoire, first child of their daughter Alexandra and their son-in-law Nicolas, born this Tuesday, May 14 in Paris," the court said in a statement, sharing the baby's name on a pink slide below a crown.

"The mother and child are doing well," it added.

The baby arrives as ninth in the line of succession to the Luxembourgish throne and as the eighth grandchildren for Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa.

In December 2023, the Grand Ducal Court shared the happy news that Princess Alexandra’s family was expanding.

“Their Royal Highnesses the Grand Duke and the Grand Duchess have the immense joy of announcing that Princess Alexandra and Mr. Nicolas Bagory are expecting their first child,” the court wrote on Instagram, per a translation.

“The birth is planned for spring. The Grand Duke, the Grand Duchess as well as the members of the two families unite in this great happiness,” the statement said.

Princess Alexandra, 33, married Nicholas in a double set of royal weddings in April 2023. On April 22, the couple exchanged vows in a civil ceremony in the Town Hall of Luxembourg City before the mayor, followed by a reception at the Grand Ducal Palace. Two weeks later, they celebrated again with a private ceremony at Saint-Trophyme Church in Bormes-les-Mimosas, France, on April 29. There, the bride sparkled in the Chaumet Choker Tiara, a convertible family heirloom that can be worn as a headtopper or necklace.

The Grand Ducal Court announced Alexandra’s engagement in November 2022, and shared a bit of the groom’s background. Nicholas was raised in Brittany, France and studied political science and classics, before pursuing a career in social and cultural projects. It remains unclear when he and the princess connected, or how long they had been together before getting engaged.

Victoire is the second baby to be born into the royal family of Luxembourg this year and will grow up with a cousin close in age. In January, Princess Alexandra’s elder brother Prince Felix and his wife Princess Claire welcomed their third child, son Balthazar Felix Karl. However, there was a bit of a hiccup with his name announcement!

Royal watchers caught that courtiers switched the spelling of Felix and Claire’s baby son’s name in official communications the day after his birth announcement, calling the baby Prince Balthazar instead of Prince Balthasar as he was initially introduced.

According to Nameberry, the name Balthazar has Greek origins and a royal meaning — "God protects the king.” In the Bible, Balthazar was also one of the three kings who visited the infant Jesus — a fitting tribute as the little prince arrived near the feast of the Epiphany.

Prince Felix and Princess Claire are also parents to daughter Princess Amalia, 9, and son Prince Liam, 7.
