Roy Halladay's battle with addiction, stardom to be chronicled in new E60 documentary

Former Philadelphia Phillies and Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Roy Halladay’s life and death will be the subject of a new E60 documentary.

A trailer for the documentary — titled “Imperfect: The Roy Halladay Story” — debuted on Twitter on Thursday. The documentary will feature interviews with a number of prominent people in Halladay’s life, including his wife Brandy.

If that clip is any indication, the documentary is going to be a difficult watch. Brandy Halladay suggests stardom and expectations weighed heavily on Roy. Brandy also says she believes Roy was an addict. The toxicology report following Halladay’s death found high levels of amphetamines in his system. Halladay died in a plane crash in 2017.

On the field, Halladay was one of the best — if not the best — pitcher of his era. From 2001 to 2011, Halladay posted a 2.98 ERA over 2,300 innings. He made the All-Star team eight times and won two Cy Young awards over that period. Halladay was posthumously inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2019.

“Imperfect” will air May 29.
