A father-son pairing of Vermont stalwart bands and an out-of-town favorite headline this year’s edition of the Waking Windows music festival, which returns May 3 to 5 to downtown Winooski.

Topping the bill at the annual festival is the dynamic duo of Vermont rockers Death and Rough Francis. Death is the proto-punk band started in Detroit in the early 1970s by brothers Bobby, Dannis and the late David Hackney.

Rough Francis is the Burlington band begun by Bobby Jr., Urian and Julian Hackney – the sons of Bobby Sr. – initially to play the music of Death before creating their own music. Bobby Sr. and Dannis Hackney would eventually reform Death and go on tour themselves.

The festival has also lined up Lady Lamb, the act fronted by singer-songwriter Aly Spaltro. The native of Maine has played frequent shows in Vermont over the past dozen years.

Those bands will join The Vapor Caves, Yonatan Gat, Katie Von Schleicher and Jon McKiel on the Rotary Park stage starting at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 4. The festival’s anchor venue, The Monkey House, will present acts that night including H31R, Hello Shark, DJ Disco Phantom, Eastern Mountain Time and Bone Bone.

Lady Lamb, aka Aly Spaltro, performs Oct. 15, 2020 at The Higher Ground Drive-In Experience at the Champlain Valley Exposition in Essex Junction.

Additional Vermont acts booked for the festival include Barbacoa, Burly Girlies, Freeway Clyde, Mal Maiz, Mikahely, Swale and Wren Kitz. Set times will be announced.
