Ross Mathews dresses as Dolly Parton for Halloween, terrorizes “Drew Barrymore Show” cooking segment

Ross Mathews has learned the hard way that it isn't easy being Dolly Parton.

The Drew Barrymore Show star came dressed to impress as the "Jolene" singer for its Hairy Halloween celebration on Tuesday, only to suffer not one, not two, but three terribly timed wardrobe malfunctions during its cooking segment. As part of the fall festivities, host Drew Barrymore, impeccably dressed as Bob Ross, welcomed food writer Ree Drummond to make her famous chili and potato nachos. But things quickly spiraled out of control.

Mathews, in all his bedazzled glory, seemed to predict that trouble was brewing seconds before it happened. Holding a bowl of kidney beans, he remarked, "It's so hard to do this with nails, you guys! I can't even begin to tell you!"

As Barrymore scooped the beans into their mixture, a special bit of extra seasoning joined them: Mathew's bright red fake fingernail, which quickly melted into the chili. "Oh my god, Drew!" he exclaimed. "No! My fingernail's in there!"

Barrymore and Drummond screamed as they fished the nail out with a spoon. Taking the casual nail drop in stride, Barrymore declared, "We're just going with it!"

Drummond attempted to help Mathews glue the nail back in its proper place. "I have to say, I think we're nailing this chili," he joked, before the nail went clattering onto the table. "Oh god, it's off again."

"I think you should just pretend that never happened," Drummond suggested as Mathews laughed and flashed his nine remaining, perfectly manicured nails to the audience. Barrymore drolly replied, "That's what I'm doing."

Mathews later found an inventive way to use the chili's toppings to help with his costume. "I can replace my nail with a corn chip!" he shouted. But despite the five-second rule, no one from the trio actually took a bite of the finger food before cutting to commercial break.

Things only got worse when Mathews was put in charge of placing their potato nachos into the oven. At that point, a piece of his bedazzled fringe got caught inside the door of the appliance. "Oh no, look!" he yelled. "Part of me got stuck on here! My outfit! One of my bedazzles got stuck on here!"

Barrymore, summoning Bob Ross' inner strength, quickly intervened and snapped the glitter off the door.

As he returned to the cooktop, Mathews, unable to hold back his laughter, revealed he'd tragically lost another nail. "Look at my thumb," he said, showing off a horrifically bent fingernail to the camera, which he then flashed into a thumbs-up. "I'm doing great!"

Drummond, too, was able to find the bright side of Mathews' crumbling-costume drama, declaring, "Every good Halloween costume should be wrecked by the end of the evening."
