Roseanne Barr Apologizes for ‘Planet of the Apes’ Valerie Jarrett Tweet: ‘My Joke Was in Bad Taste’

Roseanne Barr apologized to Valerie Jarrett on Tuesday after the comedian made a racially charged joke about the former Senior Advisor to President Obama.

“I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans. I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks,” said Barr in a tweet Tuesday morning. “I should have known better. Forgive me-my joke was in bad taste.

She also added that she was “leaving Twitter” over the latest imbroglio.

The walk-back came just hours after Barr joked that Jarrett — who is African American — was the child of apes and the Muslim Brotherhood in a now deleted tweet.

“muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj,” said Barr in the original tweet in response to a comment about Valerie Jarrett, which left little doubt about who she was referring to.

Jarrett declined to comment on the tweet, which may have been inspired by persistent — and spurious — rumors that Jarrett was on-record as saying that she wanted the United States to become a “more Islamic country.”

Roseanne’s profile has risen dramatically in recent months with the successful reboot of her old program on ABC. The show has become the biggest ratings star on the network, which has not responded to multiple inquiries from TheWrap about the tweet.

It’s hardly the first time the vocally pro-Trump performer has raised eyebrows on Twitter. In addition to Jarrett, Barr was also forced to walk back a tweet accusing Chelsea Clinton of being married to George Soros’ nephew. The former first daughter publicly corrected Barr on Twitter, Tuesday.

Barr has also tweeted rumors, fake news and conspiracy theories, like this one, suggesting that President Trump has freed thousands of children fro pedophile rings across the globe.
