She's Not Backing Down

Actress Rose McGowan, one of the first women to speak out against Harvey Weinstein and someone who has been at the forefront of the #MeToo movement, is suing Weinstein and his ex-lawyers Lisa Bloom and David Boies. According to TMZ, McGowan claims "this case is about a diabolical and illegal effort by one of America's most powerful men and his representatives to silence sexual-assault victims."

Her Claims Against Weinstein

McGowan claims that she had previously attempted to write a memoir called Brave that would have revealed that Weinstein had raped her and a number of other women, but when Weinstein heard that the book was happening, "he tapped into his team of fixers" and ensured that it would never be released "and -- if it did -- that no one would believe her."

McGowan also alleges that Weinstein's lawyers stole the book and attempted to silence her through any means necessary. She also believes that they planted coke on her, which lead to her arrest in 2017. She was encouraged to plead no contest, which she did.

Bloom's Rep: "Facts Matter"

McGowan is seeking damages after what the ordeal has done to her life and her career.

However, Weinstein's team isn't going down without a fight. Bloom's rep told TMZ:

"It is inexcusable that Ms. McGowan chose to include my client in her lawsuit. Facts matter. There is simply no credible factual or legal basis for her claims against my client. We look forward to our day in court to set the record straight."

Weinstein's Reps Respond

Weinstein's lawyer Phyllis Kupferstein responded to TMZ's report, denying all of McGowan's claims.

"Once and for all, Rose McGowan will be shown to be what she is; a publicity seeker looking for money. From the moment she sought a multi-million dollar payout in return for not making these baseless allegations, which we rejected, we knew that she was waiting for an opportune time to begin this. We will demonstrate that this case has no legal merit."
